KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The No. 16-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team earned a key KJCCC road point on Saturday and moved into third place in the Jayhawk Conference standings.

Scoring with 4:20 remaining in the second half to tie game on an Own goal, the Blue Dragons tied No. 7 Kansas City 1-1 at the KCK Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2) with their fifth tie of the season. Hutchinson is now 9-2-5 overall and is 8-2-5 in the KJCCC. Now with 29 league points, Hutchinson moved past Cowley into third place. The Dragons have one game remaining with Cowley next Saturday, October 26 at the Salthawk Sports Complex. Cowley has two games remaining.

Hutchinson is 0-0-2 against Kansas City this season and 6-1-4 all-time against the Blue Devils.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on a Cora Ellerman goal.

The Dragons weren't able to muster much offense, firing just three total shots and only one shot on goal.

With just under five points to play, the Blue Dragons earned a corner kick. Taking the corner from the right of KCK goalkeeper Maria Heuman, Haley Rogers delivered a solid corner into the box. Kaitlyn Edwards tried for a header, but with a mad scramble for the loose ball, a Blue Devil defender knocked it own the goal for an Own goal, tying the match at 1-1 with 4:20 to play.

Playing a defensive game throughout – Kansas City out-shot Hutchinson 21-3 – the Dragon defense held on to finish off a key tie.

Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper Marina Lopez (5-0-2) was tested making a career-high 11 saves. Lopez is the 10th Blue Dragon goalkeeper to post 10 or more saves in a single game in Hutchinson history. This was the 18th time a Dragon goalkeeper has had 10 or more saves in program history and the third time this season.

Hutchinson was held to a season- and program-low one shot on goal for only the fourth time in program history and the first since September 26, 2018 by Cloud County.
