The writing is on the wall for the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team entering Wednesday's rematch with the Barton Cougars.

A win keeps Hutchinson right in the thick of the 2018 Jayhawk West championship race. A loss all but eliminates Hutchinson from conference title contention.

Kickoff for meeting No. 2 between the third-place Blue Dragon and first-place Cougars is 2 p.m. at the Barton soccer field in Great Bend. Barton Sports Information will provide the video stream.

The Blue Dragons are 8-1-1 overall after a 7-0 victory over Northwest Tech on Saturday. That victory gave the Blue Dragons a 6-1-1- record in the Jayhawk West (19 points). The Cougars are in first place winning seven games in a row to post an 8-2-1 record overall and a 7-0-1 (22 points) league mark.

The last time the Cougars didn't win a game came on September 8 at the Salthawk Sports Complex when the Blue Dragons rallied from two goals down in the last 16 minutes to battle to a 3-3 draw. Since that game, the Cougars have gone on an offensive explosion with 69 goals in their last seven games while allowing only three.

Hutchinson still boasts the best defensive team in the Jayhawk allowed the 12th fewest goals in the nation this season with seven allowed.

Two of the top assist people will play in Wednesday's game.

Hutchinson's Naomi Waithira is tied for sixth in the NJCAA with 12 assists; coming off a three-assist game on Saturday against Northwest Tech. Barton's Laura Maria is tied for ninth with 11 assists.

The Blue Dragon defense will have to slow down Barton forward Rayssa Neres, who has scored goals in nine-straight games and seven-straight multi-goal games. She has 23 of her 26 goals in those last nine games and is third in the nation in goals.

Sophomore Brailey Moeder is the active leader in goals for the Blue Dragons with nine goals. Freshman Ashley Venegas has eight goals.
