Finally – it's time for the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team to get back to work.

It has been officially nine days since the Blue Dragons last played – a 6-0 season-opening win over Northeast Nebraska on August 22. Last Saturday, the Dragons were at Trinidad State and saw a 2-1 lead washed out by a severe thunderstorm that forced the suspension and ultimately the cancelation of the game because it had not reached 70 minutes played to become official.

So now the 1-0 Blue Dragons get back to action on Saturday when the North Iowa Area Trojans come to the Salthawk Sports Complex for a 2 p.m. kickoff. NIACC is 1-0 pending Friday's game at Hesston College. This will be the first time that Hutchinson and North Iowa Area have met in women's soccer.

For the Blue Dragons, they look to shake off a week's worth of rust against a potent offensive team.

North Iowa Area is defeated Southeastern Iowa 4-3 on August 25, getting two goals from Jessica Altman and single goals from Michaela Elford and Emma Eden.

Second-year NIACC coach Leo Driscoll has 11 sophomores on his roster this season.

The Blue Dragons are led by sophomore forward Megan Maslak, who had four goals against Northeast Nebraska and had a fifth goal wiped out in the Trinidad State cancelation. Sydney Blackwell is next on the team with a pair of goals.

The North Iowa Area game will be the final non-conference match of the season. The Blue Dragons open Jayhawk West play on September 5 at Northwest Tech.
