BLUE DRAGONS EARN TOUGH ROAD VICTORY AT NORTHWEST TECH

GOODLAND – The No 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College women' sosccer team gave up its first goal of the season, but remained undefeated with a 2-1 Jayhawk West victory over Northwest Tech on Saturday.

Hutchinson led 1-0 at halftime, but a free kick led the the Northwest Tech goal 10 minutes into the second half. That snapped Hutchinson's shutout streak at six games and 595 minutes, the second-longest in program history. The longest minutes-without-a-goal streak was 613 minutes set in 2011.

The Blue Dragons reclaimed the lead about six minutes later when freshman Kaitlyn Sabala took a picture-perfect pass from Mikayla Moresco to score in the 62nd minute for a 2-1 Hutchinson.

That left the game in the hands of the defense and sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Main, who made four saves in the match. She made two incredible saves in each half to keep Northwest Tech off the board.

Hutchinson out-shot Northwest Tech 21-15. Mavericks' keeper Chloe Bailey had eight saves.

The Blue Dragons had the first tally of the game when sophomore Sheena Nichol connected on a direct free kick in the 24th minute.

Hutchinson will play at the Salthawk Sports Complex at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against Dodge City in another Jayhawk West matchup
