The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team opens its Jayhawk West portion of the 2017 season on Saturday when the Barton Cougars comes to the Salthawk Sports Complex for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

The Blue Dragons have opened the season with four-straight shutouts over Northeast Nebraska, Trinidad State, Rose State and Hesston College. Hutch has outscored its first four opponents 14-0. The 2009 and 2012 Hutch teams opened their respective seasons with six-consecutive shutouts.

Both goalkeepers – sophomore Ashley Main and freshman Clara Bergmuller – have two shutouts each. Through two games, Main has made 10 saves. Bergmuller has five saves.

Freshman Brailey Moeder is Hutchinson's leading scorer with nine points (three goals, three assists) through the first four games. Moeder comes off a three-assist game on Wednesday against Hesston College. Sophomore Sheena Nichol and freshman Megan Maslak have seven points each. Maslak and Moeder are tied for the team high in goals with three each.

Hutch opens defense of its 2016 Jayhawk West title that has been stellar defensively and quiet offensively.

Barton enters play on Saturday 1-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Jayhawk West. The Cougars' last two contests have been scoreless draws, including a conference tie against Dodge City on Wednesday. The Cougars' lone win was a 3-0 victory over Central Christian College. The only loss was 2-0 at Northeast Nebraska on August 22.

Larissa Fagundes is Barton's top scorer with two goals and four points. Reyna Gonzalez, the current Jayhawk Conference goalkeeper of the week, is 1-0-2 with 15 saves and no goals allowed in 327 minutes played.

The Dragons close out their five-season season-opening homestand. Hutchinson will be on the road after Saturday for the next two games before returning to the Salthawk Sports Complex on September 20 against Dodge City. The Dragons will be at Pratt on Wednesday.
