Freshman Brailey Moeder scored with less than 8 minutes to play in the first half Thursday and the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over Rose State College at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons improved to 3-0 with their third-straight shutout victory to start the season. Rose State falls to 2-2.

Thursday's meeting was the third between Hutchinson and Rose State. The Blue Dragons have won all three meetings, all one-goal matches.

BOXSCORE

This matchup was a tight physical, defensive battle from the outset. Quality scoring chances were hard to come by as Blue Dragon goalkeeper Ashley Main and Rose State keeper Revella Fisher matched each other with five saves apiece.

The only tally of the game started when Hutch's Natalie Graves stepped up on a ball near midfield and took it away from the Raiders. After battling two Rose State players for possession, Graves slid a pass to freshman Jasmine Blindt, who worked her way across the top of the box and found a cutting Moeder, who drove to the goal with a Raider player on her hip and slid a shot past Fisher into the lower right corner for a Dragon goal.

The marker was Moeder's third goal of the season.

Each time fired 13 shots in the game. The Dragons had four corner kicks to Rose State's three.

Main (2-0) tied a career high with five saves in her second career shutout. In the second half, Main had to make two saves.

Rose State had a prime opportunity to score with about six minutes to go. The Raiders fired two shots, both of which didn't reach Main after the shots were blocked by Dragon defenders. But Hutchinson was able to clear the ball without any damage.

Main had to make her final save with 2:39 to go.

The Blue Dragons will play host to Hesston College on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
