EL DORADO – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team handed the Butler Grizzlies their first Jayhawk West loss of the season Wednesday with a 3-0 win at the Power Plant.

The Blue Dragons rallied to win the final three points of the opening set and defeat Butler 25-23, 25-14, 25-22.

Hutchinson improves to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk West. Butler falls to 10-6 and 4-1 in league play. The Blue Dragons will play Frank Phillips, Tyler, Mineral Area and Northeastern Junior College this weekend at the Allen Samuels/Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic at the Sports Arena.

Sophomore right-side Elena Takova led the Blue Dragons with eight kills and hit .250 on 20 attacks. Freshman Tara Davis was next with five kills and two block assists.

The Blue Dragons won the opening set despite seven service errors and 18 overall errors in the opening set against the Grizzles.

Sophomore setter Cassidy Crites finished the game with 20 set assists. Freshman Ebony Sapien had five assists.

Sophomore Claira Creach had 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Raychel Reed had nine digs.

Delilah Vigil had three block assists and Chloe Partridge had two block assists.

Nia Bishop led Butler with nine kills.
