While the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team looks to keep pace with the top of the Jayhawk West, the Blue Dragons will face a newcomer to the championship chance on Wednesday evening.

Hutchinson (5-5, 4-2) travels to El Dorado to meet the Butler Grizzlies (10-5 overall), who hare one of three unbeaten teams in conference play. The match is at 6:30 p.m. at the Power Plant on the Butler campus. Butler video will provide the videostream.

Colby, Seward County and Butler are all 4-0 in the Jayhawk West entering play on Wednesday night. Barton is at 3-1 and lead Hutchinson, which is 4-2, by percentage points for fourth place. In other league matches on Wednesday, Barton travels to Colby, Pratt is at Seward County and Dodge City is at Garden City.

The Blue Dragons hit a season-high .407 in a sweep of Garden City on Saturday at the Sports Arena. Over their last three matches, the Dragons have hit .300, which is the best three-match stretch of the season. Hutch has gotten strong outings from right-side hitter Elena Takova, who is hitting .405 with 3.36 kills per set and outside hitter Eden Hiebert, who is hitting .357 with 3.67 kills per set.

Butler has won three matches in a row with sweeps of the Friends Junior Varsity and Pratt and a five-set win over Independence.

Under first-year head coach Lisa Lechtenberg, the Grizzlies are hitting .160 as a team with 10.95 kills per set. Butler is also the No. 1 blocking team in the Jayhawk West at 2.75 blocks per set.

Overall for the Blue Dragons, Hutch is now hitting .203 with 11.26 kills per set. The Dragons also average 1.59 aces, 1.55 blocks and 14.46 digs per set.

This weekend, the Blue Dragons will play host to the Allen Samuels/Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic at the Sports Arena.
