GARDEN CITY – The Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer Team earned its second-straight shutout and had three multi-point scorers as the Blue Dragons improved to 5-0 on Wednesday night with a victory over the Garden City Broncbusters.
Freshman Adriana Delgado and sophomore Hadlie Lowe scored two goals each and sophomore midfielder Julia DeSouza had a career-high four points as the Blue Dragons defeated Garden City 5-0 in a Jayhawk West matchup at Broncbuster Stadium.
The Blue Dragons improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk West. This is Hutchinson's first 5-0 start to a season since 2017. Garden City dropped to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Hutchinson also improves to 29-0 all-time against Garden City, including 23-0 in KJCCC-designated contests. The Dragons have 21 all-time shutouts against the Broncbusters.
Lowe led the Blue Dragons with a five-point night, tallying two goals with her first assist of the season. She was also credited with the game-winning goal, her second of the season.
Now with seven goals for the season, Lowe has 25 career goals 54 career points and 10 career game-winning goals. She moved into 12th place on the Blue Dragon career goals list, 20th on the career points list and is second in career game-winning girls. This was Lowe's sixth career multi-goal game.
Delgado's multi-goal night was her first of her Blue Dragon career. She scored her second and third goals of the season.
De Souza scored a goal and dished out a career single-game high two assists.
The Blue Dragons out-shot Garden City 13-7 overall and 7-1 in shots on goal.
Blue Dragon sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona (3-0) posted her fourth career shutout making only one save. Earlier on Wednesday, Felix-Cardona was named the NJCAA national goalkeeper of the week. Her one save against the Broncbusters was impressive when she had to leap high to deflect a Garden City shot over the crossbar in the 85th minute.
The Blue Dragons led 1-0 at halftime on Lowe's goal in the 31st minute. Lowe took a long Zara Lawless pass and found an odd angle on the left side of the goal, turned in and chipped a shot for her sixth goal of the season.
Four minutes into the second half, the Blue Dragons struck again off a corner kick from De Souza where Delgado fired in a shot inside the box to extend the lead to 2-0.
De Souza scored with a 20-yard shot for her first goal of the season to make it 3-0. The goal was assisted by freshman Lorena Gomes in the 68th minute.
Delgado scored her second goal of the game minutes later in the 74th from a Lowe assist.
De Souza assisted on Lowe's breakaway and second goal in the 82nd minute.
