KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer team opened the 2022 Jayhawk Conference season with a key 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Blue Devils on Wednesday at the KCK Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons start a season 3-0 for the first time since 2018. The Dragons are 1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Blue Dragons play their 2022 home opener on Sunday afternoon where they play host Western Wyoming at 2 p.m. at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. Before the Blue Dragons' game, Western Wyoming will play Allen at 11 a.m.

Tied at 1-1, sophomore Emma Scholl scored the go-ahead goal in the 41st minute when she scored her second goal of the season off a Julia De Souza pass.

The Blue Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when sophomore Hadlie Lowe took a Jayda Wyatt pass on the left side of the box and drove in to score her fifth goal of the season. With her 23rd career goal, Lowe moves into sole possession of 16th place on the Blue Dragon career goals list. Lowe has scored goals in three-straight games to open the season.

After leading 2-1 at halftime, the Blue Dragons controlled possession for most the second half. After back-to-back-to-back corner kick opportunities midway through the second half, freshman Kendra Brungardt scored her first career goal, scoring off an Ella-Mae Miller corner kick to give Hutchinson aa 3-1 lead in the 71st minute.

The Blue Dragons out-shot the Blue Devils 13-6, including 7-3 in shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona (2-0) earned the victory with three saves.

The Blue Dragons generated eight corner kicks, including seven in the second half.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 6-0-1 all-time vs. Kansas City. … The Blue Dragons capture their 150th all-time conference game in program history. Hutchinson is now 150-34-8 in KJCCC games.
