
Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The No. 16 Cowley College Tigers scored three goals in the first 20 minutes and put the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team in a deep hole Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
The Dragons nearly climbed out of that hole early in the second half pulling within a goal, but the Tigers remained undefeated with a 4-2 Jayhawk Conference victory on Wednesday.
Hutchinson falls to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Jayhawk West. The nationally ranked Tigers are now 5-0 and 4-0 in league play. The Blue Dragons travel to Coffeyville on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons were out-shot 18-7, including 10-2 in the opening half. The Tigers had the only five corner kicks of the contest.
Cowley scored just 1:04 into the game when Nanako Seki scored from a corner kick. Elsa Pelichant scored in the 12th minute and Michelle Smith scored at the 19:09 mark of the first half for a 3-0 lead.
Blue Dragon goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona was replaced with Madison Quarles at that point.
The Dragons finally started to generate some possession and got on the board when Hadlie Lowe ripped a shot from the right side of the box into the upper left-hand goal past Makayla Farqharson to cut the Cowley lead to 3-1. Sophomore Jordan Crone was credited with an assist.
The Blue Dragons cut their deficit to 3-2 early in the second half when Aimee Maher played a long pass to Lani Dickinson, who scored her second goal of the season with 40:57 to play in the second half.
Natalia Lima, who had a goal and two assists to lead the Tigers, scored an insurance goal with 26:24 to play in the game. Cowley led 4-2 at that point.
Quarles finished with three saves and one goal allowed after entering the game. Felix-Cardona had one save. Farqharson had one save for the Tigers.
