KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team became the first team this season to put a blemish on undefeated Kansas City's record on Saturday with a 2-2 tie at the Blue Devil Soccer Field.

Saturday's tie was a single-season record third draw for Hutchinson this season. The Blue Dragons are now 5-3-3 overall and have 13 points in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson is in third place in the Jayhawk West with two regular-season games to play. The Blue Dragons travel to Dodge City on Wednesday.

No. 6 Kansas City entered play on Saturday unbeaten and untied at 12-0. The Jayhawk East champion Blue Devils had allowed only five goals in the first 12 games.

The Blue Dragons became just the second team this season to score multiple goals against Kansas City this season as Esther Karhayu and Marah Franke scored on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Dragons needed just 1 minute, 4 seconds in the second half to get on the board. Karhayu, who missed the Cowley game because of an injury, took a Samantha Vaughn pass that deflected off a KCK player and launched a shot into the upper right corner for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Kansas City tied the game in the 54th minute on a Corinna Hughes goal.

Hutchinson took a 2-1 lead when Franke scored from the left side of the penalty box when she floated a shot into the upper right corner of the goal with 13:21 to play in regulation.

The Blue Devils again tied the game, this time with 3:44 to play when Suzie Lopez score to knot the score at two.

Hutchinson goalkeeper Kambrian Colborn kept the match tied at 2 in the last seconds of the first overtime. After a KCK corner kick, Colborn made two point-blank saves just before the period ended.

Hutch out-shot Kansas City 25-24 in the game. Colborn finished with five saves.

The Dragons are now 0-1-3 in overtime matches this season.

Hutchinson is also 2-1-2 against nationally ranked competition this season.
