OVERLAND PARK – The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team scored the first and last goals of Friday's 2020-21 season opener at rival Johnson County.

The Cavaliers managed to fit in three goals in between and win 3-2 at the JCCC Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons played against a 30 mph wind in the first half and struck first when Chiara Stuenkel hammered home a Marah Franke corner kick for a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of the game.

Johnson County struck twice going with the wind and led 2-1 at halftime.

The Blue Dragons had two great chances to tie the game early in the second half with two 1v1 matchups on breakaways, but the Johnson County keeper made saves on both Dragon opportunities.

The Cavaliers added a third goal midway through the second half for a 3-1 lead.

The Dragons got a 35-yard direct free kick from Zara Lawson for a goal in the 90th minute for the final margin of victory.

The Blue Dragons, who carried possession for a majority of the game, out-shot Johnson County 12-9.

Freshman goalkeeper Kambrian Colborn had six saves.

The 0-1 Blue Dragons are on the road on Monday, travelling to Barton for a noon kickoff at the Cougar Soccer Complex in Great Bend.
