Freshman midfielder Naomi Waithira was the only Hutchinson Community College women's soccer player to earn first-team All-Region VI status when the 2018 teams were announced on Monday.

Waithira was one of five Blue Dragons to earn all-Region honors. Brailey Moeder, Ashley Venegas, Hailey Burke and Taylor Camp all made the second team.

All five Blue Dragons earned first-team All-Jayhawk West honors last week.

Waithira, a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, was one of the top playmakers in the region this season with 15 assists, tying for the sixth-most assists in 2018. She also had four goals for 23 total points this season.

Her 15 assists tied for the second most by a Blue Dragon freshman and tied four others for the sixth most assists in Hutchinson single-season history.

Waithira had four multi-assist games and a season-high three against Northwest Tech on September 29.

Waithira helped the Blue Dragons to a 13-3-1 record this past season.
