The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team will start what it hopes will be a long postseason journey on Thursday when the Region VI Tournament starts.

The Blue Dragons will take on old rival Johnson County at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Scheels Overland Park Soccer complex at 12700 Switzer Road in Overland Park. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will stream the game live.

Hutchinson enters the 2018 postseason riding a five-game winning streak that was stoked by one of the greatest comebacks in team history last Saturday. The Dragons trailed at Cloud County 2-1 with less than 15 minutes to play and struck for three Brailey Moeder goals in a span of 5 minutes, 4 seconds and held on for a 4-3 win over the Thunderbirds.

Moeder leads the Blue Dragon in total points (53), while freshman Ashley Venegas leads with 14 goals and Naomi Waithira had 14 assists. Moeder has 13.

Freshman keeper Taylor Camp carries a 12-2-1 record with 1 0.92 goals-against average into the game. The Blue Dragons lead the Jayhawk Conference with a conference-low 14 goals allowed this season.

Johnson County (10-6-2) is also gaining momentum going 5-0-1 in their last six games. That includes a 4-1 win over Butler.

Kayla Brashear is Johnson County's top scorer with 10 goals and 25 points. Manuela Gonzalez as seven goals and six assists. Vanessa Silva is Johnson's No. 1 goalkeeper. She has a 10-5-2 record with a 1.80 goals-against average.

Thursday's meeting between Hutchinson and Johnson County will be the ninth postseason meeting and 20th overall matchup, the first since 2016.

The Hutchinson-Johnson County winner will meet the Barton-Neosho County winner on Saturday in the Region VI semifinals. The two Region VI semifinal winners will not play each other, but both qualify for the Plains District Tournament on November 2-3 in Texas.
