PRATT – Ashley Venegas will be the answer to a Hutchinson Community College women's soccer trivia question someday.

The question will be "who scored the game-winning goal in Blue Dragon head coach Sammy Lane's 200th all-time victory."

Venegas scored in the seventh minute and Kaitlyn Sabala finally added some insurance in the 70th minute as Hutchinson secured all-time win No. 200 in a 2-0 victory over Pratt in a Jayhawk West battle on Saturday at Pratt.

The Blue Dragons improve to 7-0-1 overall and are now 5-0-1 (16 points) in the Jayhawk West with a huge league matchup coming Wednesday against Cloud County at the Salthawk Sports Complex. Pratt, coached by former Blue Dragon player Ashley Burnett, falls to 3-7 and 1-5.

Lane, who is the only coach in Blue Dragon women's soccer history, reached 200 wins in 251 games. Lane is 200-46-5 at Hutchinson.

Lane becomes only the third coach in Jayhawk Conference women's soccer history to reach 200 wins, but only the second to get all 200 at the same school. Lane Joins Jim Schwab and Adam Hunter as Jayhawk Conference women's coaches with at least 200 wins. Schwab's wins have come at Johnson County, while Hunter has been both at Dodge City and Butler.

As for Saturday's game, the Blue Dragons are now 11-0 all-time against Pratt with an aggregate score of 96-0. But Saturday's two-goal margin of victory was the closest in series history.

Venegas opened the scoring 6 minutes, 13 seconds into the game when she beat Pratt keeper Haven Johannsen for the goal. Brailey Moeder had the primary assist and Naomi Waithira was credited with the secondary assist for a 1-0 Hutch lead.

The game then became a strange defensive struggle. The Dragons out-shot Pratt 10-3 in the opening half, but couldn't get a second goal. Johannsen had 6 of her 8 saves in the opening 45 minutes. Hutchinson led 1-0 at halftime.

The second half started out the same way, although Pratt was able to muster some more possession time. The Beavers forced Blue Dragon goalkeeper Taylor Camp (6-0-1) to make two saves.

The Dragons finally scored an insurance goal with 20:13 to play in the second half when Sabala scored a goal for the second-straight game and her third of the season to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead. Moeder picked up her second assist of the game.

Hutchinson outshot Pratt 20-4.

The Blue Dragons and Thunderbirds will square off at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
