Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's and men's cross country teams return to action on Saturday for race No. 2 of the 2020 season.

The Blue Dragons will run in the Bethel College Muthama-Rogers Invitational in North Newton. The women's race is at 10 a.m. and men's race at 10:45 a.m. This will be the Blue Dragon women's first 5,000-meter race of the season and the men will run 8,000 meters for the first time in 2020.

Fans will be allowed on the Bethel College course, but masks must be worn at all times and social distancing will be encouraged. Fans will also be permitted to attend the awards ceremony, which is inside Thresher Stadium, Bethel College's football facility. Fans will be permitted to only sit on designated seats to keep social distancing for the ceremony.

The Muthama-Rogers Invitational will be an 18-team field with Jayhawk Conference and Kansas Conference teams. Hutchinson, Butler, Cowley, Coffeyville, Pratt, Allen, Neosho County, Dodge City, Fort Scott and Colby are the KJCCC teams participating. The Dragons have already competed against Cowley, Coffeyville, Allen, Neosho County and Dodge City this season.

Bethel, Friends University, McPherson College, Southwestern College, St. Mary's University, Ottawa University, York College and Oklahoma Wesleyan University are the KCAC schools competing. MCC-Longview is the only non-KJCCC/KCAC team in the field. MCC-Longview ran at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.

Hutchinson has not raced since the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic on September 4. The Blue Dragons are ranked No. 3 in the USTFCCCA Division I National Rankings after a third-place finish at the Masterson Twilight.

Sophomore Teagan Flanagan led the way for the Blue Dragons with a runner-up finish at the Masterson Twilight. The Blue Dragons got a huge lift from sophomore Jacob Mcelhanon, who finished sixth at the Masterson Twilight with a four-time time of 22:03.4.

The Dragons also got strong performances from sophomore Matthew Schrag and freshman Cameron Delaney. Schrag was 13th at the Masterson Twilight and Delaney was 19th at Hutchinson's home meet.

Hutchinson's women enter Saturday ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA Division I Women's rankings. The Blue Dragons finished third at the Masterson Twilight.

Freshman Louise Cocking was impressive in her first collegiate race, finishing sixth at the Masterson Twilight. Sophomores Sheila Too and Megan Miller shattered their previous Masterson times with seventh and 17th, respectively.
