LAMBERT LEADS HUTCH WOMEN AT REGION VI CROSS COUNTRY

GARDEN CITY – Sophomore Maggie Lambert's 15th-place finish heled the No. 14-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2017 Region VI Cross Country Championships on Monday at Buffalo Dunes Country Club.

The Blue Dragons finished third in the Jayhawk West team standings.

Colby won the Region VI and Jayhawk West team championships. The Trojans narrowly defeated Cowley, 43-44, for the regional title. The Trojans dominated the West team standings scoring 19 points to runner-up Butler's 58. The Blue Dragons scored173 points in the region and 88 points in the conference standings.

The Blue Dragons averaged 21 minutes, 52 seconds.

Lambert posted a time of 20 minutes, 51.7 seconds to lead the Blue Dragons. She had her second Top 15 regional finish in as many years. Lambert's time was good for seventh place in the Jayhawk West individual standings.

Freshman America Garcia had her best team placing of the season as the second Blue Dragon to finish on Monday. Garcia was 31st in the region and 16th in the Jayhawk West with a time of 21:25.6.

Macy Linenberger, Sarah Patteson and Saw Ahmara were the other three Hutch runners to figure in the team scoring. Linenberger ran a time of 22:19.2 to finish 46th in the region and 23rd in the league. Patteson was 47th in the region and 24th in the conference with a time of 22:19.7. Ahmara was 51st overall and 26th in the conference with a time of 22:23.8

Aileen Gomez placed 62nd and 31st with a time of 22:58.7. Caitlin Schlickau was 63rd and 32nd in a time of 22:59.7. Ashton Schlickau was 70th and 36th in 23:29.8. Veronica Embrey was 75th and 40th in a time of 24:01.0. Carissa Youngs was 85th and 46th with a time of 25:02.5.

The NJCAA National Division I Championships are next for the Blue Dragons. The national championships will be on Saturday, November 12 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
