VICTORIA – Sophomore Maggie Lambert and freshman Aileen Gomez once again led the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team on Saturday.

But the significant thing about the Blue Dragons' finish at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open was where the team finished in relation to other Jayhawk Conference schools.

The Blue Dragons finished sixth overall with 137 points. But after falling out of the NJCAA Division I rankings after being ranked as high as No. 12, Hutchinson was the second-highest conference team to run at the soggy Sand Plum Nature Course.

Hutchinson finished second to only No. 17 Colby, which won the Women's Black Race with 79 points. The Dragons amassed 137.

FINAL FHSU TIGER OPEN RESULTS

The meet was delayed an hour because of the heavy rains overnight left large puddles of standing water on the course. Those wet conditions considerably brought the times up on Saturday.

Lambert was Hutchinson's top placer crossing the finish line eighth in a time of 19 minutes, 42 seconds. That was 17 seconds slower than her freshman time at the FHSU Meet last season.

All five Blue Dragons to figure in the scoring placed in the Top 50.

Gomez was next for Hutchinson in 25th place in a time of 20:25. Freshman Sarah Patteson placed 26th with a time of 20:27.2. Freshman America Garcia was 33rd 20:40.4. Macy Linenberger was 48th 20:57.8.

Other Blue Dragon finishers:
+ 79. Saw Ahmara, 21:46.8
+ 92. Caitlin Schlickau, 22:01.3
+ 111. Veronica Embrey, 22:42.8
+ 123. Ashton Schlickau, 23:02.3
+ 134. Catlin Doornbos, 23:35.3
+ 135. Carissa Youngs, 23:35.4
+ 138. Amy Burton, 23:51.5

The Blue Dragons will next be in action on Monday, October 16 at the Isom Invitational in El Dorado.
