LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team's season came to an end on Tuesday as the No. 14 Seward County Saints controlled their Region VI Tournament opening-round match from the outset Tuesday night at the Green House.

The Blue Dragons fell in straight sets to the Saints, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18. Hutchinson closes the 2021 season with a 19-16 record. The Saints move onto the Region VI semifinals on Friday in El Dorado.

The Saints dominated the opening set, but the Blue Dragons looked to have an answer in the second set, leading 9-6. But Seward County erased that deficit and controlled the match the rest of the way.

Freshman outside hitter Sophie Connor had nine kills, seven digs and a service ace to lead the Blue Dragons against Seward County.

Sophomore middle Kristina Head had 12 kills and five block assists.

Freshman setter Andrea Serrano closed with 13 assists, while freshman setter McKinley Johnson had 12 assists. Sophomore middle Zoe Schmidt had five digs. Sophomore outside hitter Tauja Durham had three block assists and freshman libero Rachel Easom had a service ace.
