LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team hit a negative attack percentage for the second time this season as the No. 10 Seward County Saints rolled to a sweep on Tuesday night at the Greenhouse.

The Saints took advantage of the Blue Dragon offensive struggles and rolled to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 Jayhawk West victory. Hutchinson fell to 12-9 overall and 4-5 in the Jayhawk West. Seward County improved to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Hutchinson is off until Saturday when it takes on Cloud County at 2 p.m. and Highland at 4 p.m. in Concordia.

The Blue Dragons were out-hit .267 to a negative .022 in the match. The Saints had 33 kills to the Dragons 22 and the Saints out-blocked the Blue Dragons 10-3.

Seward County had five early blocks in racing out to leads of 11-3 and 20-6 in the opening set. Seward County hit .370 in the second set in scoring 18 of the set's first 24 points.

Hutchinson rallied from a 10-6 deficit in the third set with a match-best 5-0 run to lead 11-10. The Dragons also led 12-11 and 13-12, but hit a negative .054 in the third set as Seward County completed the sweep.

Sophomore Kristina Head had a team-high seven kills with five digs to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman Blondie Penaflor had six kills and freshman Baylee Miller had for kills.

Freshman setter Andrea Serrano had 15 assists. Freshman libero Amanda Velez had a team-high eight digs and sophomore Zoe Schmidt had seven digs.

Sarah Cruz had 10 kills and Seyun Park had seven kills to lead the Saints.
