The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team looks to snap a two-match losing streak and move forward to securing a home playoff match when the Dragons embark on a five-match road trip starting Wednesday night in Garden City.
Match time for the second meeting of the season between Hutch and Garden is 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Conestoga Gym in Garden City. This weekend, the blue Dragons travel to West Plains, Missouri, for four matches in the MSU-WP Grizzly Invitational before returning home next Wednesday for a key Jayhawk West home match vs. Butler.
After back-to-back losses to the top two teams in the Jayhawk West, Seward County and Colby, the Blue Dragons are tied for fourth place in the Jayhawk West with the Grizzlies at 7-4. Barton is third with a 7-2 league record.
Hutchinson swept Garden City 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 in the season's first meeting on September 15 at the Sports Arena.
Hutch outhit Garden City .407-.058 in the first meeting. Eden Hiebert hit .700 with 14 kills to lead the Blue Dragons. Elena Takova, who comes off a career-high 25 kills on Monday vs. Colby, had nine kills on .400 hitting. The Blue Dragons had 54 digs to Garden City's 32, led by Raychel Reed's 17.
Reed on Monday, moved into fifth place on the Blue Dragon career digs list with 935 career digs.
At West Plains, the Blue Dragons will face Panola, Jefferson College, Tyler and Missouri State West Plains.
