Hutchinson CC Sports Information

It was a day of mixed reviews for the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team on Day of the of the Allen Samuels/Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic on Friday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons had a team-high 11 blocked and got a combined .554 hitting from middles Chloe Partridge and Delilah Vigil in a four-set victory (25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20) over No. 17 Missouri State-West Plains in the opening match on Friday.

Hutch then had only five blocks against No. 9 Tyler, just two in the final three sets, as the Apaches drop the first to Hutch and defeat the Blue Dragons in four sets (25-15, 18-25, 16-25, 19-25).

The Blue Dragons are now 7-6 overall. Hutchinson will play No. 14 Mineral Area at 11 a.m. and close out the Classic with Northeastern Junior College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

MSU-WEST PLAINS RECAP
Partridge led the surge in the middle for Hutchinson against MSU-West Plains with a season-high .563 attack percentage on 10 kills with one error on 16 swings. Vigil had a season-high nine kills on .537 hitting with one error on 15 attacks.

That opened things up on the outside with freshman Eden Hiebert tallying a team-high 11 kills for a double-double with 11 digs. Elena Takova had nine kills.

Vigil had one solo and three block assists to lead a season-high 11 block performance. Partridge added four block assists. Takova had three total blocks, including a solo stuff.

After splitting the first two sets, Partridge had five kills and Hiebert added three in the third set as Hutch built a 24-18 lead. The Grizzlies fought of five-straight set points before Partridge scored with an off-speed shot to close the set out.

Takova, Hiebert and Vigil combined for 13 kills to help the Dragons pull away late to close the match. Up 18-16, the Dragons closed the match with a 7-2 run.

Freshman setter Eboni Sapien had 16 assists while Payton Gawith had 13. Sophomore Raychel Reed had 20 digs and Gawith finished off a double-double with 13 digs.

TYLER RECAP
Former Blue Dragon All-American and assistant coach Brandi Hood dropped a five-setter to Mineral Area earlier on Friday and watched the Blue Dragons reel off a 10-1 run in the midst of a 25-15 win.

Tied at 12-12 in the second, Tyler won 63 of the next 104 rallies to defeat the Dragons in four sets.

Hutch had no answers for Tyler middle Sheretta Hill, who had 14 of her match-high 16 kills in the final three sets.

Sophomore Lexi Hogan hit .323 with 11 kills to lead the Blue Dragons. Crites pounded down a career-high nine kills on .389 hitting. Hiebert had 10 kills and Takova added seven.

Gawith had 17 assists and Sapien had 14 assists and a season-high four aces. Reed had a team-high 11 digs.
