The third and fourth members of the 2017 Region VI champion Hutchinson Community College volleyball team made their decisions on the next stops of their careers.
Sophomore setter Katie Jorn signed a national letter of intent to play at Cleveland State University. Sophomore middle blocker Patricia Joseph signed a letter to play at the University of Evansville.
Jorn and Joseph join Page Hiebert and Tatyana Ndekwe as 2018 signees. Hiebert signed with East Carolina University and Ndekwe with the University of Illinois-Chicago in the early signing period and transferred after the first semester this season.
With the four signees from this past season, 23 Blue Dragons have moved onto four-year programs in the Patrick Hall era.
KATIE JORN, CLEVELAND STATE
A 5-foot-8 sophomore setter from Derby, Jorn becomes the first Blue Dragon to sign with Cleveland State.
Jorn was an all-conference setter for a Blue Dragon team that went 27-14, finished second in the Jayhawk West and won the Region VI Tournament championship.
Playing primarily in a 5-1 formation through most of the final three-quarters of the season, Jorn skillfully guided the Blue Dragons in 2017. She averaged 7.95 assists per set with a total of 1,129 set assists. Her total assists were eighth most in team single-season history. Her average per set was also eighth-best in single-season Blue Dragon history.
Jorn had 13 matches with 30 or more assists. She posted a career high of 52 against No. 2 Iowa Western in a five-set loss to the Reivers on Sept. 23 at the Sports Arena in the Blue Dragon Classic. She also posted a team-high 13 double-doubles this season.
In Hutchinson's biggest match of the season, the 2017 Region VI Tournament championship against No. 3 Seward County at Liberal, Jorn had 32 assists, 12 digs three kills and two block assists.
Jorn finished her career with 1,733 assists, fifth most in program history.
PATRICIA JOSEPH, EVANSVILLE
Joseph becomes the first Blue Dragon player to sign with Missouri Valley Conference affiliate Evansville.
The high-jumping 5-11 middle from Wichita had 245 kills, an attack percentage of .375 and 1.10 kills per set. Joseph was second on the team in blocking at 0.88 rejections per set, including 13 solo blocks (98 total blocks).
Joseph had a career-high 12 kills in a four-set Blue Dragon Classic victor over Odessa College on Sept. 23. She had a career-best eight total blocks in a five-set loss to No. 18 Navarro College.
