LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team won its 10th Region VI Volleyball championship since 2004 after the Blue Dragons stunned No. 3 Seward County in the Region VI Tournament finals on Sunday.

The Blue Dragons defeated Seward County in three deuce sets 25-23, 26-24, 30-28.

Hutchinson advances to the NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Tournament in the Hutchinson Sports Arena on November 16. The Blue Dragons will take a 27-12 record into the national tournament.

Hutchinson advanced to the program's 15th Region VI final since 2001 with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 semifinal victory over Garden City. This is the fifth Region VI championship in head coach Patrick Hall's six seasons with the Blue Dragons.

The Saints led their season 33-2.

Blue Dragon middle hitters Tatyana Ndekwe and Patricia Joseph keyed the Blue Dragons in the championship match.

Tatyana Ndekwe led the Dragons with 13 kills and five total blocks, including one solo stuff. Patricia Joseph added eight kills on 14 swings with four block assists.

Page Hiebert had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Nina Pevic added seven and Leonie Wienkaemper had five.

In the Garden City match,

In the Garden City match, Hiebert had 12 kills and Ndekwe added 11 kills and three blocks to lead the second-seeded Blue Dragons to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 semifinal victory.

The Blue Dragons out-hit Garden City 47-31 in the match in defeating Garden City for a third time this season.

Patricia Joseph had eight kills, Nina Pevic had seven kills and Katie Jorn had five kills in the victory.
