The road to recapturing the Region VI Volleyball championship begins Tuesday for the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team.
Looking to capture their 10th regional title since 2004, the Blue Dragons open the 2017 Region VI Tournament at home on Tuesday against the Dodge City Conquistadors.
Match time for the postseason matchup with the Blue Dragons and Conquistadors will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sports Arena.
Admission for the match will be $5 for all fans. Because this is a postseason event, Blue Dragon All-Sport Tickets are not valid for the match. Also, HutchCC students are admitted free with their student ID.
The Blue Dragons are 7-3 in their last 10 matches. Hutch closed the regular season with a four-set loss at Seward County on Saturday. The 24-12 Blue Dragons finished 13-3 to finish second in the Jayhawk West.
Dodge City is 19-14 overall and finished 5-11 in the Jayhawk West to place seventh. The Conquistadors are 5-5 in their last 10.
Hutchinson swept Dodge City in the regular season. The Blue Dragons downed Dodge City 25-17, 25-20-25-13 on September 6 at the Sports Arena. Page Hiebert had 18 kills and the Dragons held Dodge City to .120 hitting.
Hutch then defeated Dodge City 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 on October 16 in Dodge City. Hiebert had 16 kills and Nina Pevic added 11 to lead the Dragons in the rematch.
This will be the first postseason meeting between Hutchinson and Dodge City since 2013.
