EL DORADO – Freshman libero Raychel Reed topped the 30-dig mark for the second time in her career as the Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team got a big Jayhawk West victory with a 3-1 triumph over the Butler Grizzlies on Monday at the Power Plant.

The Blue Dragons defeated Butler 25-18, 12-25, 27-25, 25-19 to improve to 18-9 and 9-2 in the Jayhawk West. The Dragons stay within striking distance of conference front-runner Seward County, which defeated Dodge City on Monday night. The Dragons sweep Butler in their season series, taking a pair of four-set victories.

Reed racked up a match-high 31 digs to lead the Blue Dragons against a relentless Grizzlies' offense. Reed tied for the sixth-most digs in a match in Blue Dragon history, tying Jasmine Sherrill, who had 31 digs against Cloud County in a match against Cloud County in 2001.

The Blue Dragons also had their second-highest block total of the season with 12 total blocks (three solo, 18 block assists). Sophomore Tatyana Ndekwe had seven total blocks, including one solo block. Sophomore Page Hiebert had three total blocks.

Hiebert and sophomore Nina Pevic had 13 kills each to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman Leonie Wienkaemper had 11 kills each.

Sophomore Katie Jorn had 43 assists and sophomore Kelsey Mulligan had 16 digs.

The Blue Dragons will play host to a hot Barton Cougar team on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.
