Freshman Leonie Wienkaemper hit .333 and led a balanced attack as the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team swept Cloud County on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson defeated Cloud County 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 to earn a season sweep of the Thunderbirds. The Blue Dragons improve to 17-9 overall and 8-2 in the Jayhawk West. Cloud County falls to 4-17 and 1-9.

Wienkaemper had a match-high nine kills on 27 attacks to lead the Blue Dragons on Wednesday.

Sophomore Nina Pevic had eight kills on 22 swings and hit .227.

Sophomore Tatyana Ndekwe had five kills and two blocks. Page Hiebert added four kills.

The Blue Dragons out-hit Cloud County 34-25 and out-blocked the Thunderbirds 4-2. Cloud County finished with 23 attack errors to Hutch's 14.

Sophomore Katie Jorn finished with 17 assists and Payton Gawith added 10.

Hiebert had a team-high 15 digs. Raychel Reed added 13.

Irem Bat had six kills to lead Cloud County.

The Blue Dragons had an early 8-6 lead when a Hiebert kill started a 12-2 Blue Dragon run. Cloud County committed eight attack errors as Hutch steadily pulled away. A Jorn ace serve gave the Dragons a 17-8 lead. The lead grew to 10 at 19-9 on a T-Bird attack error. Ndekwe and Cassidy Crites had late kills and Gawith added a service ace late in the set as Hutchinson closed out a 25-15 win.

Wienkaemper got off to a hot start in the second with three kills in an initial 8-3 run to start the set for the Blue Dragons. Pevic also had three early kills, the third gave the Dragons a 10-5 lead. Claira Creach's ace upped the margin to seven at 14-7 and grew to 17-9 on a Patricia Joseph termination. Cloud County then went on a 6-1 run to pull within 18-15 after the Dragons were called for a ball-handling error. Hutch answered with a 5-0 run capped by a Crites/Ndekwe double block for a 23-15 lead. An Ndekwe kill and Cloud's 18th attack error closed out the set 25-16.

The Blue Dragons led the third set 13-9 when the Thunderbirds reeled off six straight to take their only lead of the match at 15-13. The Dragons switched offensive formations to a 5-1 and scored five unanswered with kills from Joseph and Wienkaemper on overpasses, a Hiebert ace and another Wienkaemper kill. With Hutch leading 19-18, a Wienkaemper kill started a match-clinching run. The Dragons kept Cloud in the set with nine attack errors and three service errors.

Hutchison is off until Monday when the Blue Dragons travel to Butler for a 6:30 p.m. match.
