TYLER, Texas – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team rebounded nicely from Wednesday's disappointing loss to No. 6 Seward County with a pair of victories on Friday to open the TJC Invitational at Tyler Junior College.

The Blue Dragons rallied from an early three-point deficit in the first set to sweep Monroe College 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 on Friday morning. Hutch had to play back-to-back matches on Friday. The Dragons knocked off tournament host Tyler in four sets, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24, 25-22 to start weekend 2-0.

Hutchinson improves to 16-7 overall. The Blue Dragons take on Blinn College at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will close out the tournament at 3 p.m. against Navarro College. Neither match will be videostreamed.

MONROE RECAP
Playing their 10th match in 14 days and with a 10 a.m. start time, the Blue Dragons were a big sluggish to start on Friday and trailed the Mustangs 13-10 in the opening set.

Sophomore setter Katie Jorn, who had 35 assists, started using all of her weapons to turn the match around. Six different Hutch players had at least five kills.

Sophomore Page Hiebert hit .289 with 14 kills on 38 attacks to lead the Blue Dragons offensively. She posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs.

Tatyana Ndekwe had seven kills on .462 hitting with five block assists. Nina Pevic also had seven kills. Lexi Hogan, who had two big kills in a second-set rally, and Jorn had six kills each. Patricia Joseph had five kills.

Raychel Reed had a match-high 12 digs for the Blue Dragons.

Jorn added a career-best five block assists in the victory.

TYLER RECAP
Hiebert had 23 kills and a career-high 20 digs for her second double-double of the day and fifth of the season.

The Blue Dragons defeated Tyler for the second-straight season.

Pevic, Ndekwe and Hogan had six kills each against the Apaches.

Jorn had 45 assists and a team-high five total blocks.

The Blue Dragons were strong defensively. Reed finished with16 digs, Claira Creach had 12 digs and Kelsey Mulligan had 11 digs. Ndekwe had four blocks and Joseph added two blocks.
