TOPEKA – Hutchinson Community College freshmen Deisheline Mayer Scott and Alycea McCoy opened their Blue Dragon careers qualifying performances for the NJCAA Indoor Championships on Friday in the 2025 season opener at the Washburn Rust Buster.

Mayer Scott earned a nationals berth in the shot put with a best attempt of 44 feet, 4.75 inches (13.53 meters). Mayer Scott placed fourth at the Rust Buster with the 10th-best shot put in the NJCAA this season. She also posted the seventh-best shot put in Blue Dragon indoor history.

McCoy placed 14th in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet, 2 3/4 inches (3.12 meters). That ranks seventh in the NJCAA this season and was the seventh-highest women's indoor pole vault in Blue Dragon history.

Freshman Azariah Dawes posted the seventh-best Blue Dragon indoor 200 time in program history with a time of 26.52 seconds. She finished 16th in the event. Dawes placed seventh in the triple jump with a top jump of 34-10 1/4 (10.62 meters). She also finished 18th in the long jump with a jump of 16-3 1/4 (4.96 meters).

Sophomore Aiyanna Green had the 12th-best weight throw in Blue Dragon history of 45-2 1/2 (13.78 meters).

Freshman Grace Bender cleared 9-3 in the pole vault to place 15th with the 10th-best pole vault in the NJCAA in the early season.

The Blue Dragons next compete at the JUCO/NAIA Challenge on Saturday, January 25 at Pittsburg State University.
