DOMINIQUE BREAKS OWN 200 RECORD AT ICHABOD OPEN

TOPEKA – For the second consecutive week on the same track, Hutchinson Community College freshman Kemisha Dominique broke a Blue Dragon school record.

Dominique surpassed her own Blue Dragon 200-meter record to lead the Blue Dragon women's track and field team at the Ichabod Open at Washburn's Indoor Athletic Facility.

The Blue Dragon freshman beat her previous record in the 200 by .05 seconds, running a 19th-place tie of 25.34 seconds. Last Week at the Washburn Open, Dominique broke Hutchinson's 200-meter record with a time of 25.39 seconds.

Dominique posted a second Blue Dragon all-time Top 10 performance on Saturday when she finished 21st in the 400 meters with a time of 58.99 seconds. That mark is the fourth-best indoor 400 time in Blue Dragon history.

The Blue Dragons earned their seventh national qualifier on Saturday as sophomore Taylor Hoskinson earned her second national qualifying mark of the season.

Hoskinson finished 15th in the women's Mile run with a PR time of 5:18.30. That national qualifying mark is the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history. Hoskinson has also qualified for the 800 meters this season.

Other Blue Dragon highlights from the Ichabod Open"

+ Sophomore Alivia Noll tied a personal record in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 2 inches to place seventh in the open event Saturday. That is the eighth highest vault in Blue Dragon indoor history.

+ Sophomore Ellie Van Zelfden posted the seventh fastest Mile run time in Blue Dragon history with a mark of 5:31.17. Van Zelfden placed 27th on Saturday.

+ Abigail Grantham registered the 10th-fastest indoor Mile time in HutchCC history with a 33rd-place time of 5:36.37.

+ Laura Avila placed 36th in the women's Mile with a time of 5:40.51, the 16th-best Mile time in Blue Dragon history.

+ Liberty Limon placed sixth in the open high jump, going 5-1.

+ Alexis Horsch was 10th in the open high jump, going 4-11.

+ Pole vaulter Nakaela O'Hair was 10th in the Open pole vault at 9-8.

+ Brooke Hawkins placed seventh in the women's triple jump with a jump of 37-8 1/2 inches, just one inch shy of her school record in the event. She finished ninth in the invite high jump going 5 feet, 3 inches.

The Blue Dragons now compete in the 2024 Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 17-18 at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.
