EL DORADO – Freshman Quin McKinnis closed a strong freshman season on Saturday ending up on the medal stand at the 2018 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at BG Products Stadium.

McKinnis finished sixth in the javelin on Saturday. She was just the second Blue Dragon to score in the 2018 national championships.

Entering the nation ranked sixth in the javelin with a throw of 130 feet, 1 inch, McKinnis produced her best throw of the day on her first attempt in the preliminaries.

McKinnis' first throw was 126 feet, 2 inches. That was sixth entering the finals. She was unable to move up in three attempts in the finals.

McKinnis was one of three Blue Dragons competing on Saturday, the final day of the championships.

Sophomore Alex Rodriguez finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 7 inches. Entering the championships ranked eighth in the nation, Rodriguez aggravated an injury during warm-ups ans weren't able to reach the finals.

Freshman Aileen Gomez finished 13th in the 5,000 meters. Her time on Saturday was 19:48.07.

The Blue Dragons finished 25th overall with four team points. On Thursday, sophomore Ocean Paul finished in a tie for seventh in the pole vault to capture the other Hutchinson point of the 2018 championships.

New Mexico Junior College won the women's team championship with 139 points. Central Arizona was the runner-up with 98 points. Iowa Central was third with 95 points.
