Despite not having its top-scoring athlete available for the Region VI Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Gowans Stadium, the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team still had a strong showing this weekend.

The No. 12-ranked Blue Dragons scored in eight events during the final day of the regional championships and finished sixth overall with 61 points. The Dragons were fourth in the Jayhawk West team standings with 95 points.

The Blue Dragons were without the services of three-time NJCAA National Champion Adriana Janic, who was injured and unavailable for regionals. She will still be able to compete at the NJCAA championships in two weeks in El Dorado.

Sophomore Maggie Lambert was Hutchinson's top placer on Saturday with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. The Blue Dragons scored 10 points in the Steeplechase. Macy Linnenberger placed fifth in the event at 13:01.86.

The Blue Dragon women's 4x100-meter relay team posted the fifth-best time in Blue Dragon history on Saturday with a season's best time of 48.34 seconds. The relay of Tatyana Hopkins, Tyra Banks, Morgan Powell and Claire Olson placed fifth in the regional.

Other Blue Dragons to score points on Saturday:
+ Sophomore Ocean Paul was fourth in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet.
+ Sophomore Patricia Joseph placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, one-quarter inch.
+ Freshman Sarah Patteson placed fifth in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 20 minutes, 33.49 seconds.
+ Sophomore Alex Rodriguez placed seventh in the shot put at 40 feet, 1 1/4 inches.
+ The Blue Dragon 4x400-meter relay team of Cullum, Powell, Kamryn Collins and Marshelle Conley was seventh with a season-best time of 4:15.89.

Barton won the Region VI and Jayhawk West team championships.

The Blue Dragons will next compete at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at BG Products Stadium in El Dorado on May 17-19 in El Dorado.
