After an impressive showing at the Kansas Relays last week, Hutchinson Community College sophomore All-American Adriana Janic was named the Jayhawk Conference Women's Field Athlete of the week.

Janic took two event victories at Rock Chalk Park last week, winning the long jump and 100-meter hurdles. She was the highest-finishing junior college athlete in the high jump, where she placed fourth.

Janic won the long jump, nailing the winning jump on her final attempt in the finals at 19 feet, 4 3/4 inches, which is a personal best performance and the third-best performance in Blue Dragon women's track and field history. Janic qualified in the ninth and final slot for the finals at 18-2 1/2. She remained ninth into the final round of jumps, where she unleashed her winning jump. Her winning mark topped the field by four inches.

Janic is now ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA rankings in the long jump.

She won the KU Relays 100-meter finals on Saturday with a time of 13.85 seconds. Janic is the NJCAA leader currently in that event. She cleared 5 feet, 5 inches to finish fourth in the high jump. The sophomore from Malmo, Sweden, is fourth in the NJCAA in the high jump.
