JANIC COMPLETES HUGE REGION VI FOR DRAGONS

MANHATTAN – All-American Adriana Janic added another incredible page to her Hutchinson Community College history on Sunday to lead the Blue Dragons at the Region VI Indoor Championships at Ahearn Fieldhouse.

After repeating as indoor Pentathlon champion on Thursday, Janic added two more individual championships and meet record in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Blue Dragons to a fifth-place Region VI finish and fourth-place performance in the Jayhawk West standings.

The Blue Dragons scored 66 total points in the regional championship, 36 coming from Janic, who was named the high-point scorer in the women's championship.

The defending NJCAA indoor 60-meter hurdle national champion posted the fastest preliminary time of 8.67 seconds. Janic topped that mark in the finals with a Region VI record time of 8.47 seconds to win her third Region VI championship.

Janic kept right on rolling by winning the high jump with a season-best 5 feet, 5 3/4 inches. Janic finished third in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

In other performances on Sunday:

+ Hutch's Distance Medley Relay placed fourth with a time of 13:43.29.

+ Alex Rodriguez placed fourth in the 20-pound weight throw at 48-5 1/2.

+ Ocean Paul was fourth in the pole vault with a season-best 10-feet clearance.

+ Aileen Gomez placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 20:03.65.

+ The Blue Dragon 4x800 relay was fifth in a time of 10:38.99.

+ Riley Goodson was sixth in the pole vault at a season-best 9-6 1/2.

+ Maggie Lambert placed seventh in the mile run with a time of 5:44.57.

+ Hutch's 4x400 relay placed seventh in 4:15.23.

Cowley won the Region VI women's championship with132 points. Barton was runner-up with 120 points. Butler was third with 115.5 points, Cloud County was fourth with 92 points and the Blue Dragons were fifth.

Butler claimed the Jayhawk West championship with 165.5 points. Barton was second with 139 points, Cloud County was third with 116 points and the Blue Dragons were fourth with 111 points.

Hutchinson will next compete at the NJCAA Indoor Championships on March 2-3 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
