Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The only two nationally ranked teams in the Jayhawk Conference do battle for the first time this season on Saturday and it's a Top 3 NJCAA matchup.

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team (17-0, 11-0 KJCCC) will be on the road to meet the No. 3-ranked Dodge City Conquistadors (15-2, 10-1 KJCCC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the DC3 Student Events Center in Dodge City.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 12:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and for free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 12:45 p.m.

Since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, the Blue Dragons and Conquistadors are the two winningest teams in the KJCCC in terms of record. The Blue Dragons are 77-8 since the start of the 2022-23 season and Dodge City is 71-11. The Blue Dragons are 5-2 against Dodge City in the last 2 1/2 seasons.

The Blue Dragons enter play on Saturday in sole possession of first place in the KJCCC after defeating Seward County 52-40 on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. Dodge City was upended by Coffeyville at Coffeyville on Wednesday to suffer its first league loss.

Against Seward County on Wednesday, the Blue Dragons were led by sophomore Hailey Jackson, who had 21 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. The Blue Dragons held Seward County 28 points under its scoring average and limited the Saints to 30.9 percent shooting from the field and just 1 of 15 from 3-point range.

The victory was Blue Dragon head coach John Ontjes' 500th career victory.

The Conquistadors were stung by a last-second shot at Coffeyville Wednesday as Red Raven Karliey Parker hit a 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining for a 63-60 victory over Dodge City. The Conquistadors were led by Shorna Preston and Layla-J Cameron with 15 points each.

The top two scorers in the KJCCC will be featured in Saturday's game. Hutchinson's Jackson is averaging 18.1 points per game. Dodge's Cameron averages 16.5 per game.
