Hutchinson Community College women's basketball coach John Ontjes makes his first attempt and career victory No. 500 as his No. 1 Blue Dragons play host to the Seward County Saints on Wednesday night.
The Blue Dragons (16-0, 10-0 KJCCC) and the Saints (11-5, 6-4) tip off at 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Now in his 18th season on the Blue Dragon bench, Ontjes has posted a career record of 499-96 at Hutchinson. The 499 career wins rank No. 2 in KJCCC history and Region 6 history. Ontjes has led the Blue Dragons to 10 KJCCC titles, eight Region 6 crowns, 11 appearances in the NJCAA Tournament, five trips to the NJCAA Tournament semifinals and the 2024 NJCAA national championship.
Win No. 499 came on Saturday as the Blue Dragons took charge early and rolled to a 92-47 win at Pratt. The Blue Dragons shot nearly 55 percent as Hailey Jackson scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Landon Forbes and Katie Duncan had 15 points each.
Defensively, the Dragons held the Beavers to 12 points in the first half and to 30.2 percent shooting with 28 turnovers.
Seward County lost to Coffeyville 73-65 on Saturday. The Saints have lost 2 of their last 3 games.
Against the Red Ravens, Avery Marchino led four Saints' players in double figures with 20 points. Allie Myers had 15 points with eight rebounds.
Once again the Blue Dragons will take on one of the best defensive teams in the KJCCC. Seward County is sixth in scoring defense at 53.8 points per game and fifth in overall shooting defense at 35.0 percent.
Hutchinson remains No. 1 in scoring defense allowing 48.6 points per game for the season and only 45.9 points per game in conference play.
