Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team begins the second semester of play on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons (13-0, 7-0 KJCCC) will play host to the Cowley Tigers (9-4, 4-4 KJCCC) at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The game will be the first for Hutchinson since a December 14 road win at Cloud County, a span of 21 days.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 1:45 p.m. CT with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and for free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 1:45 p.m.

The Blue Dragons started the season ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA national rankings and remain on that lofty perch through the first 13 games of the season. The Blue Dragons and Dodge City are tied atop of the Jayhawk Conference standings with 7-0 records.

Hutchinson won 9 of its first 13 games by more than 20 points, including a 77-53 win at Cloud County to close the first semester. The Blue Dragons are 2-0 in one-point games this season, winning 69-68 over Murray State on November 9 and 45-44 over Garden City on December 11.

The Blue Dragons' defense has stood tall this season, ranking sixth in the NJCAA in scoring defense at 47.5 points per game allowed and 15th in the nation in total field-goal defense at 31.4 percent.

Hutchinson hasn't allowed 60 points or more in nine consecutive games. Over that span, the Blue Dragons are allowing 45.8 points per game with opponents shooting 30.9 percent overall and 20.8 percent from long range while forcing 19.7 turnovers.

Cowley has started the season 9-4 overall and has gone 4-4 in league play, including an 81-73 overtime loss to Coffeyville on December 14. The Tigers are the top scoring team in the KJCCC at 85.5 points per game. They are tied for fifth in 3-point efficiency and have hit 142 3-pointers which is second-most in the KJCCC this season.

Three of the KJCCC's Top 5 scorers will be in action. Hutchinson's Hailey Jackson leads the conference at 17.8 points per game. Cowley's Elysa Martinez ranks fourth at 15.1 points per game and Jamie Molina is fifth at 14.7 points per game.
