Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team passed its first two tests as the top-ranked team in the nation last week.
The Blue Dragons were a unanimous selection to remain at No. 1 in this week's NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Rankings, released a day later on Tuesday because of Presidents' Day on Monday.
The Blue Dragons are 25-0 and lead the Jayhawk Conference by 3.5 games after a pair of wins last week.
Hutchinson traveled to Cowley and defeated the upset-minded Tigers 81-62. Then on Saturday at the Sports Arena, the Blue Dragons rallied from 10 points down in the first half to defeat No. 21 Butler 71-65.
This week the Blue Dragons travel to Northwest Tech on Wednesday in Goodland and to Seward County on Saturday in Liberal.
The Top 5 saw some shakeup after the Blue Dragons. Collin moved into No. 2 and Wabash Valley moved into No. 3. Gulf Coast State dropped to No. 4, while Shelton State jumped to No. 5.
Three Jayhawk Conference teams remain in the national rankings this week. Dodge City (22-4) is up a spot to No. 15 this week. Despite a pair of road losses to ranked opponents, Butler (19-6) stays in at No. 25.
