GREAT BEND – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team posted the ninth-largest margin of victory and head coach John Ontjes reached a milestone victory on Friday on the first day of the Barton Classic.

The Blue Dragons shot a season-high 51.8 percent and nailed a season-high nine 3-pointers while forcing a season's-best 30 turnovers in a 106-33 victory over Labette at the Barton Gym.

Hutchinson improved to 4-0 to start the season. The Blue Dragons will take on Redlands (4-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Redlands lost to Barton on Friday night.

Hutchinson's 73-point margin of victory is the ninth largest in program history and the second largest in series history with Labette.

The Dragons scored 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2013-14 season when the accomplished that against Northwest Tech and Neosho County. The Blue Dragons hit 48 of 83 total shots, going 9 of 31 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 from the foul line.

Ontjes earned his 450th win on the Blue Dragon bench on Friday. His win total ranks second in both the KJCCC and Region VI to Cloud County's Brett Erkenbrack.

Freshman Madi Denison led a season-high six Blue Dragon in double figures against Labette with her first career double-double. Coming off the bench, Denison scored a career-high 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting. She tied a season high with 13 assists.

Sophomore Monae Duffy was a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds. Duffy was 8 of 12 shooting from the field.

Freshman Kiki Smith scored 16 points with two three-pointers. Smith added season highs of six assists and five steals.

Sophomore Akaysha Muggeridge posted season highs of 14 points and 4 of 8 shooting from the 3-point line. Muggeridge had four steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Bree Horyna had a career-high 14 points and just missed a third-consecutive double-double with eight rebounds. Hailey Jackson had 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

The Blue Dragons had a season-low 51 rebounds, out-rebounding Labette 51-27. The Dragons also had a season-low six turnovers with season highs of 26 assists and 18 steals.

The Dragons limited Labette to 23.3 percent shooting (10 of 43), 2 of 11 from 3-point range and 11 of 20 from the foul line. Aysis Gartmond had a team-high 12 points to lead the Cardinals.

The Blue Dragons led 22-7 after one quarter and 47-11 at halftime. The Dragons scored a season-high 36 points in the third quarter to lead 83-26 after three quarters.

GAME NOTES – The Dragons are now 20-8 all-time vs. Labette, including five-straight victories. … The Dragons held their fourth-straight opponent to less than 30 percent shooting. … The Dragons outscored Labette 24-0 in second-chance points, 62-6 in points in the paint and 43-6 in points off turnovers.
