THREE DRAGONS POST DOUBLE-DOUBLES IN DECISIVE WIN

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team accomplished a feat that hadn't been done since 2014 in its final game of the BSN Sports Tip-Off Classic at the Sports Arena.

Freshman Hailey Jackson and sophomores Monae Duffy and Bree Horyna all posted double-doubles to lead the Blue Dragons to a huge 82-43 victory over NEO.

The Blue Dragons improved to 2-0 with two dominant wins on opening weekend. Hutchinson plays host to Neosho County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sports Arena.

The trio of double-doubles by Jackson, Duffy and Horyna was the first time that has happened in a game since Cynthia Petke, Kalani Purcell and Clemence LeFevre first accomplished that feat against College of Eastern Utah on December 29, 2014 in Las Vegas.

Jackson finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. She was 5 of 8 shooting from the floor and 5 of 6 from the foul line.

Duffy posted her 12th career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Duffy was 6 of 9 shooting and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line.

Horyna's first career double-double came with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Horyna was 5 of 8 shooting with a 3-pointer. All 11 points for Horyna came in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Dragons shot 43.3 percent from the field for the game (29 of 67), hitting 4 of 17 from the 3-point line and 20 of 29 from the foul like. The Blue Dragons were 15 of 33 (45.4 percent) in the first half in building a 43-19 lead at halftime.

Kiki Smith and Akaysha Muggeridge also scored in double figures for the Blue Dragons with 10 points each.

The Blue Dragons out-rebounded NEO 63-29. The 63 rebounds are the seventh-most in Blue Dragon single-team history.

NEO was held to 27.4 percent shooting (17 of 63). The Lady Norse were 5 of 18 from the 3-point line and 4 of 14 from the free-throw line. NEO committed 16 turnovers.

After two early lead changes, the Blue Dragons went on a 11-2 run that was capped by Journey Armstead's layup for a 13-4 led with 4:37 to play in the first quarter. NEO stopped that run with a Hiba Malkawi 3-pointer, but the Dragons answered that with an 8-0 run to close the first quarter. Duffy's putback bucket to close the quarter gave Hutchinson a 23-7 lead after 10 minutes.

The Dragons increased that run to start the second quarter to 15-0 on baskets from Duffy, Armstead and a Jackson three-point play to lead 28-7 with 8:22 to play in the second quarter. Smith's free throws with 2:04 left upped the Dragon lead to 27 at 41-14. NEO scored the final five points of the half to trail Hutchinson 41-19 at halftime.

Hutchinson outscored NEO 41-24 in the second half. Their largest lead of the game was the final margin of victory at 39 when Horyna completed her double-double with a layup with 16 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.

GAME NOTES – This was Hutchinson's sixth-straight win over NEO.
