The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team used balanced offense, stellar defense and got some help from afar to have a successful Wednesday night.

Four players scored in double figures as the Blue Dragon defense held its 12th opponent to less than 40 percent shooting as No. 22 Hutchinson swept the season series with Northwest Tech, defeating the Mavericks 71-52 at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons improved to 14-3 overall and 13-3 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson increased its Jayhawk West lead to 1.5 games after Garden City upset Barton on Wednesday in Great Bend. Hutchinson plays host to Seward County on Saturday in the Sports Arena.

Sophomore Tor'e Alford scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Blue Dragons. She hit three 3-pointers and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Blue Dragons.

Ishante Suttington had 12 points. Lojong Gore posted her fifth double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Kalyn Ervin with 10 points.

The Blue Dragons shot 23 of 48 from the field (46.9 percent), going 11 of 25 from 3-point range and 14 of 18 from the free-throw line. The Dragons out-rebounded Northwest Tech 36-23 and had 19 assists on 23 made baskets.

Northwest Tech shot 32.7 percent from the field (16 of 49), going 8 of 28 from long range and 11 of 12 from the foul line.

Chloe Andrew had 16 points with four 3-pointers. Yverline DeSilva had 13 points.

The Blue Dragons shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 24-15 after the first quarter. Gore scored 10 points in the first half on 4 of 4 shooting. The Dragons extended the lead to 40-25 at halftime and 55-36 after three quarters.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 7-1 all-time against Northwest Tech and 8-1 at the Sports Arena this season. … This was Hutchinson's five game this season with 10 or more 3-pointers. … For the second-straight game, the Blue Dragons had six different players hit 3-pointers. … Lojong Gore posted her fifth double-double this season.
