The No. 17-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team opens the month of March on Wednesday with the busiest week of the season.

The Blue Dragons play host to the Pratt Beavers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. This will be Hutchinson's first game in a week and the first of four in the next eight days.

The Blue Dragons (8-2 overall, 7-2 Jayhawk West) had an unexpected Saturday off when the Seward County game scheduled for last Saturday was postponed until Monday, March 8. Now the Blue Dragons play Pratt on Wednesday, at Garden City on Saturday, at Seward County on Monday at Barton next Wednesday, March 10 at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson won its fourth game in a row one week ago after a tougher-than-expected 69-63 road win at Northwest Tech. Yana Grassity had 14 points and five assists to lead the Blue Dragons, who had to survived at 13 3-point barrage by the Mavericks. With the game tied at 63 in the final minute, Ishante Suttington drove down the left side of the lane for a layoff with 36 seconds to play. The Dragons got a defensive stop and four free throws from Kate Ogle and Tor'e Alford to close the game out.

The Blue Dragons take on a Pratt team that got off to a 2-6 start for first-year head coach Steven Kenner. But the Beavers have won consecutive games over Garden City and Northwest Tech to improve to 4-6 overall.

Averaging 66.7 points per game, Pratt is led by Jada Moss at 10.9 points per game and Christy Wiebe at 10.3 points per game. Moss is also the Jayhawk Conference's second-leading rebounder at 11.1 boards per game.

Alford continues to set the pace statistically for the Blue Dragons. The sophomore point guard is averaging 13.0 points per game and is No. 1 in the KJCCC in 3-point efficiency at 51.0 percent (25 of 49) and first in assists at 4.7 per game.

The Blue Dragons own more victories over Pratt, 80, than any other team in the Jayhawk Conference. The Dragons swept the Beavers in two games last season.
