Tor'e Alford sank a season-high five 3-pointers and Lojong Gore posted a double-double as the No. 17-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team parlayed a huge first quarter into a Jayhawk Conference victory over the Allen Red Devils.

Hutchinson put together its second-longest scoring run of the season in the first quarter to break the game open and roll to an 80-49 victory over the Red Devils to move to 5-0 at the Sports Arena this season.

The Blue Dragons improve to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk West. Allen falls to 1-7 and 1-5 in the Jayhawk East. Hutchinson travels to play the Cowley Tigers on Wednesday in Arkansas City. Hutchinson has now won eight games in a row over Allen.

Hallie Reed gave Allen its only lead of the game (3-2) with a 3-pointer from the right corner with 9:22 to play in the first quarter. Yana Grassity countered with a 3-pointer 25 seconds later and sparked an 18-0 run over the next 6 minutes, 68 seconds. Nafatoumata Haidara's free throw with 1:59 to play in the first gave the Dragons an 18-0 run and 20-3 lead.

The Blue Dragons shot 49.8 percent and built a 50-23 lead at halftime, Hutchinson's third 50-point half this season.

Alford finished with a game and season-high 19 points, knocking down season-high five 3-pointers to lead the Blue Dragons. Alford added five rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Gore posted her second double-double of the season and third for her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gore also had a career-high six steals.

Grassity finished with nine points. Lani Morris came off the bench to score eight points, while Cherrelle Newsom and Ishante Suttington added seven points.

The Blue Dragons shot 40.3 percent for the game (31 of 77), going 11 of 28 from 3-point range and 7 of 13 from the free-throw line.

Defensively, Hutchinson held Allen to 34.0 percent (18 of 47), hitting 8 of 35 3-point goals and 9 of 14 free throws. The Red Devils turned the ball over 32 times. The Blue Dragons had a season-high 23 steals.

Chloe Burns had 13 points and six rebounds to lead the Red Devils. Adji Mbaye was next with eight points.

The Blue Dragons' largest lead was 37 points at 64-27 and 66-29 in the third quarter.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 32-3 all-time against Allen, including 19-2 in the Sports Arena … This was the fifth-straight game the Blue Dragons have scored 80 or more points against Allen … Hutchinson coach John Ontjes collected his 380th all-time victory. … Ishante Suttington also had a career-high four steals. The Blue Dragons' 11 3-pointers were the second time this season to reach 10 or more 3's in a game.
