The No. 12-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team goes right into conference play on Wednesday when the Coffeyville Red Ravens come to the Sports Arena for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

The Blue Dragons (1-0, 0-0 KJCCC) opened the season with a 92-34 victory over the Bethany College Junior Varsity. Led by sophomore Kate Ogle's career-high 20 points and five 3-point field goals, the Blue Dragons tied a single-game school record with 16 treys on 30 attempts. Seven different players had 3-pointers in the game.

Three players scored in double figures for Hutchinson in the season opener. Freshman Kalyn Ervin had 12 of her 17 points in the second half and she added five steals. Freshman Ishante Suttington hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points. All eight Blue Dragons to suit up scored in the game.

Defensively, the Blue Dragons forced 32 turnovers and held the Swedes to 22.4 percent overall shooting and just 1 of 12 from behind the 3-point line.

Coffeyville (1-0, 0-0 KJCCC) defeated the Southwestern Christian Junior Varsity 111-56. The Red Ravens shot better than 58 percent from the field.

Last season, in the team's only meeting of 2019-20, the Blue Dragons defeated Coffeyville 71-53 at the Sports Arena. That was Hutchinson's sixth-straight victory over the Red Ravens. The Dragons held Coffeyville to 33.3 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers.

Blue Dragon head coach John Ontjes is in his 14th season with the Blue Dragons. He has a record of 376-77, which ranks fifth all-time in Jayhawk Conference coaching victories. Tony Turner is in his second season with the Red Ravens. He guided Coffeyville to a record for 25-7 last season after spending several years at Independence as both the women's and men's head coach.

This is the fourth-straight season that Hutchinson and Coffeyville have opened the Jayhawk Conference season. The Dragons have won three-straight KJCCC openers.
