DODGE CITY – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team had its 10-game winning streak snapped at the hands of a hot-shooting Dodge City team Wednesday night.

The Blue Dragons fell 69-55 to the Conquistadors at the Student Activities Center. Dodge City hadn't beaten Hutchinson since March 3, 2006 (27 games) and the Conquistadors snapped a 74-game losing streak to ranked opponents.

Hutchinson falls to 24-3 overall and slips back into a first-place tie with Seward County at 16-2 in the Jayhawk West. Seward County defeated Colby on a buzzer-beater Wednesday in Colby. Dodge City won its sixth game in the last seven and improves to 15-12 overall, 10-8 in the Jayhawk West.

The Blue Dragons wound up playing without its two leading scorers this season. Makayla Vannett wasn't available for the game because of injury and in the second minute Wednesday night, leading scorer Abby Ogle was lost for the game because of injury.

It took three quarters for the Blue Dragons to find their offensive footing again without Ogle and Vannett. By that time, Dodge City had opened a 47-28 lead after three quarters.

The Blue Dragons made just 7 of 32 field-goal attempts in the first three quarters, while Dodge City – the Conquistadors have averaged only 5.5 made 3-pointers per game this season – nailed 9 of 30 attempts from distance, the first six coming in a first half where the Conquistadors led 32-15.

Hutchinson outscored Dodge City 27-22 in the fourth quarter, making 10 of 18 field goals, including three 3-pointers.

Freshman Tor'e Alford scored a career-high 22 points against Dodge City, going 8 of 15 from the field with three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Brooklyn Betham posted her fifth double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She had a career-high 8 of 11 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Lauryn Mapusua finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Sydney Thurwalker led Dodge City with 18 points and eight rebounds. She did not play in the first game with Hutchinson on January 22 because of illness. Fredrionna Adams had 14 points and five rebounds. Faith Cattouse had 10.

Dodge City shot 36.4 percent overall (26 of 66) and 12 of 15 from the free-throw line. Dodge city out-rebounded Hutchinson 41-40.

The Blue Dragon women will play host to Colby at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday for Pink-Out Night.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are 69-28 all-time against Dodge City, 33-14 in Dodge City. … The Dragons had season lows for points in the first quarter (8), points in the second quarter (7), points in the first half (15), total points (55), field goals (17) and field-goal percentage (34.0). … Dodge City had leads as large as 24 points; the largest margin Hutch has been behind this season. … Hutch is now 9-2 in road games this season.
