Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team will play a rare Saturday home game as the No. 6-ranked Blue Dragons play host to the Garden City Broncbusters.

Tipoff is at 2 p.m. (changed from the original start time of 5:30 p.m.) at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. This will be the first Saturday home afternoon game since March 1, 2008.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 1:50 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play by play) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 1:50 p.m.

Hutchinson comes into Saturday's matinée riding an eight-game winning streak after Wednesday's 73-53 road victory at Northwest Tech. Tied 30-30 at halftime, the Blue Dragons opened the second half on a 19-1 run and closed the game on a 22-4 run after Tech pulled within 51-49 with 7:21 to play in the fourth quarter.

Abby Ogle scored 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting with eight rebounds and five steals to lead the Dragons. Makayla Vannett and Lauryn Mapusua had 15 points each.

Game No. 2 of Hutchinson's current winning streak was a 77-62 win over Garden City at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

The Blue Dragons didn't grab control of that game until the second half. Turning the ball over 21 times, the Dragons led Garden City 37-30 at halftime and finally pulled away in the fourth quarter. Ogle flirted with a triple-double with 18 points, eight rebounds and six steals in the first Garden City game. Vannett had 14 points, Sasha Francis 13 and Nafatoumata Haidara had 11. Ariyanna Hall hit five 3-pointers and led Garden City with 26 points.

The Broncbusters have lost five games in a row since upsetting Jayhawk East leader butler 80-78 on January 20 in Garden City. The Broncbusters fell 102-72 to No. 12 Seward County on Wednesday night in Garden City.

Garden City will bring in the fourth-highest scoring offense in the KJCCC at 72.5 points per game. The Blue Dragons continue to lead the Jayhawk Conference and rank No. 4 in the NJCAA allowing 50.5 points per game.

Saturday's meeting will be the 91st between Hutchinson and Garden City in a series that has been continuous since 1976. The Blue Dragons own a 71-19 series advantage over the Broncbusters, including 38-5 in games played at the Sports Arena. The 71 wins over Garden City are the second-most victories against a single opponent. The opponent Hutchinson has the most wins against is Monday night opponent, the Pratt Beavers with 79 wins.
