The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team has battled its way back into a first-place tie in the Jayhawk West after Saturday's dramatic 72-70 victory at No. 12 Seward County.

Now the Blue Dragons look to stay atop the Jayhawk West as they start the second time through the division on Wednesday night at Northwest Kansas Tech.

Game time on Wednesday is 6:30 p.m. (CT) from Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland, Kansas. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 6:20 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play by play) and Glen Grunwald (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 6:20 p.m.

Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Blue Dragons (21-2) have their fate in their own hands with just seven games to play in the regular season.

Abby Ogle's go-ahead basket with 2.7 seconds to play on Saturday night snapped a four-game losing streak to the Saints and broke Seward County's 61-game home-court win streak. Hutchinson and Seward County are now tied atop the West standings at 13-1.

Ogle scored 20 points and Makayla Vannett had four big 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. Nafatoumata Haidara had nine of her 10 points in the third quarter.

Since losing to the Blue Dragons 67-48 at the Sports Arena on January 15, Northwest Tech has gone 2-4 and are 8-14 overall. After defeating Pratt 52-50 on Jan. 25, the Mavericks pushed Seward County hard on a 63-55 loss at Liberal on January 29 and lost a 66-61 decision to Dodge City in Goodland on Saturday. Josie Cook had 18 points and Zantasia White had 17 for Tech against the Conquistadors.

Ogle scored 17 points in Hutchinson's 19-point victory over Northwest Tech on January 15. Vannett had four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. The Blue Dragons hit 10 3-pointers and shot 43.6 percent overall while holding Northwest Tech to 30.2 percent shooting. Jada Russell had 13 points and Lauryn Vieria had 11 points and six assists to lead the Mavericks.

Wednesday opens a stretch of four games in eight days for the Blue Dragons. Hutch will play two-straight home games against Garden City (Saturday) and Pratt (Monday) before closing this busy stretch of games with a road game to Dodge City on February 11.

This will be the sixth overall meeting between the Blue Dragons and Mavericks and just the second in Goodland. The Blue Dragons have a 4-1 series advantage. The Blue Dragons won 105-51 in their trip to Goodland last season, Tech's first in the Jayhawk Conference.
