Hutchinson CC Sports Information
A 2-0 week which included a road win over No. 12 Seward County vaulted the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team up two spots in the latest NJCAA Division I Women's National Rankings.
Released on Monday, the 21-2 Blue Dragons jumped up to No. 6 in the national rankings. Former No. 5 New Mexico and former No. 6 Tyler both lost games last week. The Top four teams – South Plains, Trinity Valley, Western Nebraska and Gulf Coast State remained the game. Shelton State moved into the Top 5.
The Blue Dragons defeated Barton last week 67-43 and then defeated the Saints 72-70 on Saturday on Abby Ogle's basket with 2.7 seconds to play. The Blue Dragons now find themselves in a first-place tie in the Jayhawk West with Seward County at 13-1. Those team meet again on Feb. 22 in Hutchinson.
Despite the loss to Hutchinson, Seward County stayed put at No. 12 this week. No other KJCCC team is getting any national attention this week.
The Blue Dragons will open a busy stretch of four games in eight days starting on Wednesday at Northwest Tech in Goodland. The Dragons then play host to Garden City on Wednesday and Pratt next Monday before traveling to Dodge City on Feb. 12.
The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 32 consecutive polls and in 133 of the last 138 ranking periods.
