Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Playing its third game in five days, the No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team starts a key two-game road-trip on Wednesday night.

The Blue Dragons (15-2, 7-1) will take on the Garden City Broncbusters (6-10, 1-6) at 6 p.m. from Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:50 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analyst) calling the action. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will provide a videostream, also beginning at 5:50 p.m.

Wednesday's game will be the fourth in eight days. Hutch is 2-1 so far with a decisive win over the Bethany College JV before a buzzer-beater loss at Cowley on Saturday. The Dragons quickly turned around and defeated Northwest Tech on Monday night, 67-48.

The reason for the importance of this road trip - the Blue Dragons travel to Pratt on Saturday - is to keep pace with Jayhawk West leader Seward County. The Blue Dragons trail the Saints by one game in the league.

Sophomore Abby Ogle posted her third double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high-tying 12 rebounds to pace the Blue Dragons past Northwest Tech on Monday. Nafatoumata Haidara just missed a double-double with nine points and a career-best 14 rebounds. Makayla Vannett added 14 points, knocking down three 3-point field goals.

Defense again led the way for Hutch, holding the Mavericks to 30.2 percent shooting, but forced a season-low 11 turnovers.

The Blue Dragons take on a Garden City team that comes off a 104-39 loss to Seward County on Monday. The Busters are 3-7 in their last 10 games. Garden City's only conference win this season was an 84-74 win at Neosho County on December 8.

The Broncbusters do have the fourth-highest scoring offense in the league at 75.1 points per game, but rank 14th in scoring defense, allowing 74.4 points per game.

Seward dominated Garden City from the outset on Monday, holding the Busters to season lows of 39 points, 21.1 percent shooting and a season-high 34 turnovers. Garden was out-rebounded 64-39.

Wednesday's meeting with Garden City will be the 90th in series history. Hutchinson has won three in a row over the Busters and hold a decisive 70-19 series advantage. Last season, Hutchinson swept Garden City, winning 87-56 at the Sports Arena and 99-53 at Conestoga Arena.
